In many music videos, you will traditionally see the artist performing whilst the music is dubbed in accordance to their movement with the instruments. We decided we would challenge this convention; therefore we did not include any instruments in the video- our performer just sings along to the song and dances in spontaneity to the music. We made this decision based upon the idea that playing instruments in our song was not imperative in conveying the ideas we intended; resultantly it could have drawn attention away from the key ideas we wanted to communicate with our audience. In terms of relation to the conventions of EuroPop, it would have not been applicable to our specific song due to the unclear assortment of instruments used; it wouldn’t have added any extra element to the appearance of our video. Goodwin’s theory of having a relationship between the lyrics and the on-screen visuals. This is resonant in the majority of our lines as there is a close relevance to what is occurring on-screen at that current moment in the video. We managed to maintain a consistency of this throughout our video as we felt it was important not to omit this intended relevance. We decided we wanted to include this feature as the audience would gain a greater understanding of the song should they have a great visual aid , as some of the lines are slightly promiscuous and become difficult to interpret. Therefore, by constructing a relationship between the lyrics and the visuals, we aimed to create an effect that complements the content of the lyrics. Ensuring the pace of the editing fits with the pace of the music was highly critical

Section B: Presenting Self

In Sophie Price's column, the speech is written as it belongs in a magazine for many to read. It is planned; based upon her life events going on, she has written a permanent piece that sums up her emotions upon her life situation. On the other hand, Cherie Blair's speech is spoken, however I presume it was planned, perhaps in written form due to the complexity of its grammar. Also, knowing that the speech would be permanent, she would want to ensure that she is going to deliver it correctly as once spoken it cannot be retrieved.

Cherie Blair's speech is politically based, due to its content and her status in society. The content is based around scandal around her life, which links scandal towards the government- this is due to having high status; being the wife of the prime-minister. Therefore, we can predict upon the audience due to her position socially and her own common interests- therefore we can build up an assumption of who would be at the speech, and who would show interests in what to say. Mainly journalists and similar people involved in politics would be there to witness this as it would be in their own interests to analyse what she has to say, and investigate into this extensively.

Dissimilarly, Sophie Price's column comes under the field of teenage life and gossip. With the informality of her speech and the context she puts her words into, we are able to build up this image of a teenager in our head who is living a life which many young girls want to- having 'girlie nights out' and 'staying at Katie's'. She appeals to her target audience of the younger, female generation by allow them into the experiences of her life, which is fair to say, many would enjoy to live.

Question 2
The language used in the no smoking signs is very categorical or becomes rather predictable due to their similarities. Imperatives are used frequently, for example ‘Don’t even think’ and ‘watch your butt’. However their implications are not to be taken as seriously as they appear- ofcourse the thought will cross a smokers mind, but the ideology behind 'Dont even think' basically asks you not to do it. Also, 'watch your butt' is a double entendre, as it can be recieved in two possible ways as the word 'butt' can mean two things- your cigarette butt or your posterior, however it works for this scenraio.
In most cases, the signs say that smoking is illegal

During the day,  that very same curtain will stop light from moving in the opposite direction. But of course, if you don't ever open that curtain how can you know which particular function it is serving at any point in time? Is the world outside your window now light or dark? There's really only one way to find out. Events this Hallowe'en will provide you with a reason to look beyond the obvious.
